The Grand Rapids LipDub

by Megan on July 11, 2011

First, my apologies for the long Day Improver absence. No big excuses. Life has just been more hectic than usual lately. But I will try my best to get DI back on a schedule.

The Grand Rapids LipDub has been making the rounds for about a month, so a lot of you may have seen it. Back in May, five thousand people in Grand Rapids, Michigan got together to make a video of themselves lip-synching to Don McLean’s famous song, American Pie. Their inspiration? An article in Newsweek which referred to Grand Rapids as a “dying city”. I think it’s pretty clear that any city that can band together to finish a project of this scope can’t be called “dying”. Please watch the whole thing to see just how much coordination and cooperation this took, especially considering it’s one continuous shot.

I just read the news about the tragic shooting in Grand Rapids this weekend. My thoughts are with the people of Grand Rapids during their time of grief.
